Abandoned

Eyes closed and
hands folded while a
vacant expression on
your face silently accepts
the disappointments which
helped put you here.

How do you feel
laying in your mahogany castle,
fair weather friends and family members
saying a kind goodbye and quietly mumbling
prayers long overdue simply to fit in?
Tear covered faces jostle for position as you
revel in your abandon.

A fitting end.
The final broken promise,
the last remnant of our existence shattered
after a lifetime of strident embraces and
vociferous conversations.

Does time now stand still, should I wait for the
consequences of the mumbled prayers?
Am I still asphyxiated by the
ties that bind or
will my lungs expand and be filled
with the breath of life?

One final kiss on your
cold lifeless lips.
